Foreword

NEW: Patcher ready for Quicken Deluxe 2017 !

As you can see, I’ve rearranged the site a bit and separated the different versions of Quicken into several pages. It should be a little bit easier to locate the appropriate version of the Patcher.

If you are new to this site but are reading this, you are probably using Quicken for your finances and encountering an irritating message upon launch, such as below:

On this site, you will find a link to download a little program that will patch one of the files in your Quicken directory, in order to remove the message at startup. It was tested for several versions of Quicken, including the patches released by Intuit.

First of all, I need to warn you: you should only use this at your own risks. The risks are though limited since the program makes a backup of the file before patching it, in case something goes wrong.

Instructions

First of all, find the appropriate version of the Patcher for your version of Quicken. If you have just installed a new release you should be able to identify it easily (Quicken name them R1 for the initial release, then R2, R3, … for the following version). If not, you can check the “qwmain.dll” in your Quicken installation directory by right-clicking on it and looking at the Details tab. If you are still not sure, take the latest version of the Patcher for your Quicken version, it should identify it automatically … if a patch was released (if not, contact me and I will see what I can do).

Once you have downloaded the file, place it in your Quicken directory and launch it. Under Windows 7, you might need to run it as an administrator for the program to be able to write in the Quicken installation directory. Click on “Patch / Un-patch” to apply the patch. The program will ask you to point to the “qwmain.dll” file. Once you’ve done that, it will control the file and make the required changes. You should also be able to drag-and-drop the “qwmain.dll” onto the Patcher window.

If for any reason you want to cancel the patch (before installation a new Quicken release for example), just execute the Patcher again. It will revert the changes made to the “qwmain.dll” file. A backup named “qwmain.dll.bak” should also be present in the directory: it’s a copy of the original file.

I’m trying to maintain the Patcher up to date when I have new requests, but it may take me some time before I release a new version.

Do not hesitate to leave a comment if you find it useful !
